FotoboxSuite
Greenscreen for each layout in FotoboxSuite
Prepare virtual photo backgrounds for each layout and calibrate the camera on site. Includes the workflow, requirements and quality limitations.
With greenscreen, FotoboxSuite replaces the green or blue shooting background with a prepared image. The enabled state, background and crop belong to each photo layout. An event can therefore offer layouts with different virtual backgrounds. Colour calibration for the actual camera is saved directly on the photo booth.
Prepare the photo background and photo booth design separately
The greenscreen background appears behind the people in the photo. The photo booth design determines the start and result screens on the display. Changing the photo booth design therefore does not replace the greenscreen photo background.
A virtual background applies to all photo fields in a layout. The selected capture layout type determines the background used in live view and finished photos.
Set up greenscreen in the layout editor
- Open a layout. Choose the layout in the layout area, open “Edit”, then “Greenscreen”.
- Choose a background. Enable greenscreen and choose an image from your library or upload a static background image.
- Adjust the image. “Fill area” fills the photo area and may crop image edges. “Show full image” preserves the complete image and lets you choose a colour for empty areas. Horizontal and vertical positioning can be adjusted.
- Review the preview and save. The web preview uses a labelled sample photo. Changes remain part of the layout draft until you save them. Undo and Discard also apply to greenscreen settings.
- Match the event and device. Assign the layout to the event and let the photo booth load the settings and background file completely.
- Check a real camera photo. If needed, calibrate the wall colour on site and check both live view and a finished photo.
Calibrate the camera on site
The app uses green by default. For a blue wall or different lighting, choose the wall colour from the unprocessed camera image in local camera calibration. Colour range, soft edges and spill removal help fine-tune transitions and colour fringes.
This calibration belongs to the camera on each device and is saved separately. It is not transferred to other photo booths as part of the layout. With multiple devices, prepare the photo background centrally and check calibration on every camera.
What are the requirements?
- An evenly lit green or blue background and a camera image adjusted to suit it.
- FotoboxSuite Studio from 0.30.0 with supported greenscreen processing. An incompatible device displays “Update required” for the affected event.
- A valid background image loaded completely on the device. If the file is missing or corrupt, the app blocks capture and displays a message.
- A static background image up to 25 MiB, 40 million pixels and 16000 pixels per side. Animated backgrounds are not used.
What happens to capture, printing and the gallery?
Background removal is applied to the finished camera photo before it is placed in the layout or prepared for the gallery and backup. Single photos and double strips also use these processed photos.
Unchanged camera originals remain in the private local subfolder _originals. The standard guest gallery, automatic cloud or USB backup, PIN export and regular session archive use the finished photos. Private originals are therefore not included in this standard guest output.
What are the quality limitations?
Chroma keying uses the selected colour. Green clothing in front of a green wall, or blue clothing in front of a blue wall, may therefore also be removed. Shadows, reflections, uneven lighting and motion blur can create visible edges.
The sample preview helps with background and cropping. The quality of your actual camera, lighting and wall can only be assessed with real photos. Pay particular attention to hair, glasses, clothing and fast movement.
For event preparation, save the layout with its background first. Then check the actual wall, camera and lighting on each photo booth before guests start using it.
